Liverpool From…Hearts of One Love

Charles and I first came to Liverpool for a day trip during our UK travels however we both knew when we left, that returning would become a priority. Liverpool surprised us in a beautiful way. ❤️

There was something about Liverpool that connected with us immediately. We felt a genuine pull toward the city and knew we needed to explore and learn more about this amazing, culturally diverse place, in real time.

Unfortunately, Liverpool gets a bad reputation based on talking to people from other places in the UK, especially people who have never actually visited. Charles and I have always made our own assessments of places which has always paid off for us and Liverpool was no different.

Our travel adventures connect us with local people and experiences, giving us an authentic perspective wherever we go. Here in Liverpool, we were able to talk with several people who had recently relocated to Liverpool from London. Every one of them shared a similar story: what they had been told about Liverpool before moving here was very different from what they actually discovered. Their conclusions? Liverpool is a pretty cool place with the kindest and most welcoming people!

For Charles and I, some of the kindest, most welcoming people we’ve encountered in the UK have been right here in Liverpool. And the vibe of this city is unlike anywhere else we’ve visited in the UK and believe me, we’ve visited a LOT of places!

NEWS FLASH: Liverpool is SO much more than The Beatles! 🎶

Yes, The Beatles are a part of Liverpool’s story. But there is SO much more to discover.

Here are five fascinating facts:

#1 Liverpool was one of the world’s biggest ports during the 19th century and played a significant role in the transatlantic slave trade.

#2 Liverpool was home to the world’s first inter-city railway.

#3 Liverpool has more parks, museums, and art galleries than any UK city outside of London. (Most are free entry)

#4 The International Slavery Museum is located here in Liverpool. (It is currently undergoing renovations.)

#5 Liverpool Cathedral is one of the largest cathedrals in the world and is on the opposite end of Hope Street from the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral

And yes… we absolutely jump on the Liverpool Beatles Scene😂

We took the Magical Mystery Tour bus, visited The Beatles Story Museum, and even made our way to the Cavern Club. The Cavern was, well… a little dank and definitely not our thing! 😂 But it was still interesting to experience a place that played such an important role in music history.

Interestingly, though, none of those things were the highlights of Liverpool for us.

What has really captured our attention are the people, the museums, the cathedrals, the architecture, the history, the culture, and the incredible story of this city.

So, here’s our Liverpool reflection:

“Whether you love The Beatles, like The Beatles, or couldn't care less about The Beatles… don't let that determine whether you visit Liverpool.”

Again, I say Liverpool is rich in history, culture, and the people are incredible, so come with an open mind. Charles and I have been so enlightened and inspired with all we have gathered here in Liverpool. Our experiences have truly been life changing, and we will carry the knowledge forward and share it with others in love!

Our original plan was to spend two weeks in Liverpool, but we quickly realized that wouldn’t be nearly enough time to see and experience everything we wanted without feeling rushed. Since there was no need to rush which is one of the best parts of our journey, we extended the stay.

Because Charles and I choose to live in the moment, it makes it easy for us to pivot and go with the flow. Our choices to stay longer, or leave sooner, simply depends on what aligns with our peace, it really is that simple for us!

Staying longer also gave us the chance to move to a different location with an apartment that suits us better. Our first place was a lovely townhouse, but it had a lot of stairs, and our knees were beginning to protest. Our new apartment is all on one level, filled with light, and tucked into a lovely town filled with historic architecture and charm.

Liverpool and the surrounding areas are much larger than Bournemouth where riding the bus was simple and fast. However, in Liverpool the bus rides can be quite crowded and lengthy, so we are riding Metro trains and taking Ubers instead.

We met Dr. Rebecca Loy at the World Museum in Liverpool. Our initial meeting was very organic and natural. Rebecca approached us in the common area greeted us warmly and began to share many helpful and insightful tips about the museum; including a brief history of Liverpool. What I loved most about our interactions with Rebecca during our initial meeting is that she never mentioned her PhD credentials. However, the wealth of knowledge she shared and the way she delivered the narratives, made us know this sister was something special.

Rebecca also introduced us to her aunt Linda Loy another powerhouse of change here in Liverpool. Aunt Linda, so graciously took us around Liverpool for an impromptu historical tour, which was simply wonderful.

As summer pivots to autumn, there’s no better place to welcome a New Season than Liverpool. We’re soaking up everything this vibrant city and the surrounding area have to offer. This included seeing the live production of “Death of a Salesman” at the Everyman Theater. The show was exceptional and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Since the first half of September was spent in Bournemouth UK, we want to give a big shout-out to our many dear friends there. We absolutely loved spending time in Bournemouth, and what made it so special was the wonderful people we had the privilege of spending time with. Thank each and every one of you for your incredible hospitality, kindness, and friendship.

Bournemouth is now much more than a vacation destination; it’s a place where treasured friendships were made. Charles and I plan to return to visit with you all again, and again!

In the spirit of newness, we would like to spotlight Rebecca Loy and Beki Crowell!
