"Start children off on the way they should go, and even when the are old the will not turn from it." (Proverbs 22:6)
Growing up in Detroit, Mi, I was raised by a "Village." As a single mother of 3 daughters, there was absolutely no way my mom could do it alone. The best part of it all is she didn't have too; the women and men in our family/community showed up for her. Just to be clear it was still not an easy task for my mom and we did struggle at times however we did have help from our village.
We as a society have failed our children; over a period of time we have collectively stopped praying and covering our youth. Our villages have been transformed into islands of me/mines. This statement is based on the facts that as "Parents/Adults", We have allowed our children to be gunned down in the streets, caged in camps, bullied at school, and simply made to feel worthless.
Over the years I have grown into a woman of action. I find myself constantly embracing the saying "Be the change, you want to see in the world." So with that said, I choose not to just talk about the problems, instead it is my mission to actively work on solutions. As with all things in my life, that starts with talking/listening to God (Prayer). Our children are enduring physical, emotional, and spiritual attacks daily, something must be done to reverse this.
From the perspective of mother, nana, mentor, and professor, my heart truly aches for the generations behind me. We all can and must do better to advocate, mentor, and simply listen to our children.
Start now, by simply praying for guidance on how you can positively impact a child TODAY! You can start with a simple smile and hello. You'd be amazed at how God can work life changing results from, just a simple act of kindness. ~One Love Diane
"I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be"
