Hello everyone, I’m Vanessa Castillo and I’m 23 years old. It’s been a tough journey to get where I am mentally and spiritually today but with the help of God, family and friends I am a much more confident and fearless woman.
I recall on more then one occasion being asked the question; “What’s your biggest fear?” I never revealed my deepest fears, I would only respond with surface fears. I chose to keep my deepest fears inside. I believed talking about those deep fears was only giving them power, yet keeping them inside was not helping either. So than, what was I to do?
During my teenage years and early twenties, I struggled with fear, anxiety, and depression.
In search to find peace and balance, I discovered the love of Christ. I no longer feared disappointing others, or the darkness that comes with depression. I know the Lord does not give us a spirit of fear, what He does give use is strength and a brave spirit. No one and nothing in this world can make me feel as whole as the love of Christ!
I can now face my fears and achieve my goals because with God anything is possible! Every day is a new challenge but as we live, perseverance is a must, to get where we are meant to be. I was attending college for years because I thought it was the only way to my success. However once I made peace with finding and using my God given talents, I decided that college was not my best fit. College is not for everyone, and I don’t think that our youth should be pressured into attending college, if they are undecided about what they want to do in life.
I love skin care and have a natural gift for makeup application, so I am currently in the process of getting my esthetician license. Yes, you can be very successful at anything that you truly love!
So I would encourage anyone who finds themselves where I was, afraid, stressed, and confused, to really research all of their options. If you know exactly what you want to do and college is required than by all means do that. On the other hand if you have no clue what you want to do, attending college because that’s what everyone tells you to do is a waste of sleep and lots of money !
Fear is crippling, so if you are struggling with it find your way out of fear. Find your peace! Find what interest you, determine if college or a trade school is required. Finally, go forward even if you start out with baby steps, just keeping moving in the direction of your goals.
I feel so happy where I am right now and although I know I still have a lot of work to do, I am willing to work hard for my success. More importantly, I am no longer afraid! ~OneLove Vanessa
