Hands Wide Open...

Day 24

"When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things." (Psalm 104:28, NIV)

Many people hold on tight, to what they have earned and worked for in life. "I work hard for my money." "I saved up for years to buy this..." "This is a family heirloom, I will cherish it with my life."

I totally understand these statements and have actually spoken a couple of them before.

Imagine my surprise the first time, God instructed me to give it all away. Notice I said the first time, so far I have given away acquired material possessions 3 times. As a child, I remember my mother giving our things away, and thinking she done lost her mind. Now, as an adult I am repeating the same pattern. However, with a clearer understanding, that mom hadn't lost her mind; she just opened her hands.

Have you ever heard the story of the pearl necklace? It's an inspirational story that reflects the love of a father for his daughter. The story illustrates how holding tightly, to anything, hinders the possibilities, of what open hands can receive. Check the story out by clicking >>>>

Story of The Pearls

We are all in different places on the journey to trusting God. He knows exactly where we are, in relation to our trust in him. The very first time I gave it all away, some of my most cherished items, were placed in a storage unit. I just wasn't ready to give those things away, yet. I paid to have them in storage for nearly 4 years. Immediately after getting the items out of storage; I gave them all away. That was the expensive way to open my hands and let go. The following two times there was no storage unit involved; lesson learned.

The second time, Charles and I were married. As previously mentioned we are all in different places with our trusting God journey. When, the thought to give away everything in our house came to me, I was like, this is crazy and Charles is not going for this. I prayed silently, okay God if this is you, Charles will agree without question. Knowing there was no way this would happen, Charles is a very rationale man; he would never go for that.

The conversation went a little like this:

Me: Hey Charles, today during my walk, a thought came that we should give everything away. I saw us inviting all our family and friends into our home, and allowing them to take what they wanted. Everything!

Charles: "OK"

Me: Mouth open and speechless

At the time we were living temporarily in California and our house was located in Southfield, Michigan. We had no idea, what God had planned and only trusted that He would provide. God restored us exceedingly beyond what we gave away. That's a story for another time. (winks)

The third time, we let go of everything was nearly 4 years ago, at the start of our current journey. We were a lot more comfortable releasing things because we knew God would supply our needs. Our knowing of Gods provisions did not come from just reading, or hearing about it. We know that God provides, because we are living and walking proof of his provisions.

Just to be clear, I am NOT encouraging anyone to give it all away. Trust God, wherever you are on your journey today. I assure you that when you say, "Yes" to the Lord and open your hands; God will blow your mind. Charles and I are taking this journey with our hearts and hands, wide open.

We are ever grateful and amazed at how God continues to use people to deliver his blessings; into our open hands.
