Master Woody Speaks: Free Services

One Love Ambassadors Charles and Diane

I remember years ago when computers were the newest trend on the job market.  Taking a computer class was a little costly then.

However, for me to avoid the cost of a computer training class this is what I did back in the day.  I went to a local Radio Shack store and asked a salesperson about buying a computer and how to operate it.  After the salesperson gave me a computer demonstration and a long sales talk, I had a very good idea about how to operate a computer.

Later I went to several other computer stores including other Radio Shack stores asking their sales and technical personnel basically the same questions.  After they told me all about their respective computers, I had completed a very good, “FREE” computer training class.  That creative self-made computer training class really saved me some money back in the day as well as got me some hands-on experience.

In my earlier years of learning and instructing Tai Chi and Qigong I started out offering free classes, as a result I was afforded many paying opportunities. Based on my reputation I began to instruct classes at numerous assisted living facilities, recreation centers, cancer centers, private sessions as well as hospitals in the various states we lived in.

Tai Chi in The Park

My wife and I offered “Free” Tai Chi in The Park in Nashville, TN.  Several of the people attending requested private classes as well.  Additionally, one day a week I volunteered and taught Tai Chi classes at the local recreation center.  My Tai Chi class was later requested to be included in a program sponsored by one of the local universities that offered to pay me through one of their grant programs. Amazingly, offering services for “Free” has its just rewards and carries with it a reciprocating power because the more we served the more we were being served and blessed.

Have you ever considered offering your services to organizations, local businesses or individuals for “Free”?

Well, that’s exactly what my wife and I did as soon as we got to Nashville, TN. We volunteered and served at the Nashville Rescue Mission for three years in a variety of positions. While volunteering for telethon fund raisers, we met some very interesting and influential people that offered us paid positions within their respective organizations.  However, we were operating in service not looking for jobs at that time.  My wife and I were both retired from professional positions, in good health and doing kingdom work wherever we were led and directed to serve through our, “Go Where I Send You? Ministry.

While at the rescue mission I designed and taught a class for the men entitled, “Resume’/Interviewing skills”.  Also, I am proud to share that a lot of the men in my class found jobs both in and outside the rescue mission.  My wife was able to contribute as a committee member for The Hearts of Hope Luncheon, two years in a row.

Hearts of Hope 2017

During our time at the Nashville Rescue Mission, we met many wonderful people including, celebrities, radio personalities and up and coming visual/recording artists. We also met people in various ministries, event planners, sports personalities and more.  And to think all those connections came to us from offering our services, for “FREE”.

Even though it’s great to receive compensation for your gifts and services, that should never be your driving force behind serving others. “True giving from the heart is an expression of love.” ~Cara Stein
